Special Education
The Kaukauna Area School District provides a wide range of education opportunities for students (ages 3 through 21) that reside within the geographical boundaries of the district. Some students have varied academic, social, or emotional needs that are served through a variety of programs; these are our special education programs. All students are provided with a district-approved curriculum at each age/grade level in a general education classroom. When students fail to make what is regarded as "typical" progress for their age/grade level, the classroom teacher and other staff members in the school setting begin to explore other programs to address that particular student's needs through the "Response to Intervention" and "Student Support Teams" (SST) process. These processes may lead to programs from ELL and at-risk programming to more intensive interventions, such as referrals for Special Education or Section 504. Special education is the education of students which addresses and complies with the student's individual differences and needs.
